I was doing the boys a favor this morning, running to Best Buy to pick up a CD for Thing 1 and a video game for Thing 2. It's so dang nice out I was more than willing to volunteer to run errands outdoors. Anything to get away from the housecleaning I need to do because we have two weekends with guests coming to our house.
As I rounded the corner to the XBOX 360 games I saw a line of guys. Most of them being in their mid- to late-twenties by my best estimate.
I stopped short with my shy self and said "Crap! What are you guys all waiting for?!"
People. Let me 'splain something about me to you. For some odd reason, and it ain't my Runway looks, people want to help me. Total strangers are at my assistance. It drives Thor crazy when we walk through Home Depot together because employees are frequently asking me if I need help. Something he never gets, even if he's holding up a sign that says "Could just one of you Home Depot employees, please please please answer a very short question of mine? Please!" (embellished for your reading pleasure) I don't know why this is. Maybe I have that look that says "I just have to ask you one quick thing and I promise, I won't tell you my life's history first" It probably has something to do with the fact that I forget I'm in a store of strangers and look at a line of mid- to late-20 year olds as if they were all my little brothers who should fetch when I tell them to.
Well. You know. Except for my very own little brother. Who'd I'd never ask a favor of for fear he may think I'm taking advantage of him. But hey, thanks for getting the dryer to work the other day!
So, where was I? Oh yeah. Yelling out Crap! to a bunch of guys waiting for a game at Best Buy.
"What game are you guys waiting for?" I asked each and every one of them. To which they all replied something I have no idea because they had apparently missed the dress rehearsal where they should have answered me in unison as opposed to some of them naming the game system first, some of them naming the game first, some of them explaining about how some Best Buy employee was in the back, trying to locate a box.
"What? Is it this one?" I asked each and every one of them again while pointing at my child's scribbling on the note he'd left for me this morning.
And let me tell you something, you know how much I really detest old people, right? Well I'm taking that old people love I won't be using and I'm applying it to that line of guys at the Best Buy because everyone of them came forward to look at my list. Thereby possibly losing their place in line to the Geekiest of Them All.
But it was a line only about 12 guys long and what was really funny was that they all seemed to be dressed the same (blue jeans/black leather jackets) and weigh about the same and even had the same hair color (dark brown). They all informed me that the release date had been set back, again!, to Friday. And they apologized like it was their fault.
Couldn't you just love them all? Can you imagine some old crone being that kind? I don't frickin' think so.
It's such a gorgeous day. I don't think that I can say that too many times. That I then took advantage of the weather and headed over to Target for some early Christmas shopping. I got a lot of shopping done for the family's Let's Make A Deal game on Christmas Eve. Good stuff. Not crap stuff. I leave that for the Seestor. She's the Queen of Christmas Crap. My brother is the King (I almost said Queen. I wonder if that means something) Personally Embarrassing Christmas Gifts. I am hereby Proclaiming that I Am The Princess of Tasteful Holiday Presents. Except for the stuff I get from Archie McPhee. But that's just funny stuff with really good taste. Mostly funny.
Okay. I really need to quit not-cleaning. I've got miles to go and hours to spend before I sleep.
