When we first moved into our house, over ten years ago, the neighbors to the south of us were horrible. 4 teenagers who felt entitled to use the neighbor's lawns for mini-bikes and frisbee tossing. 3 dogs. No leashes. Except for the german shorthair that was leashed into the garage from sun-up to sun-set. He'd bark and bark and bark and bark all day long.
On occasion the kid who owned him would take him hunting. Maybe a couple of times a year. Otherwise, there was not one lick of exercise for that gorgeous dog except when he broke free from his leash.
He eventually got loose, ran, and got hit by a car. The kid replaced him with another german shorthair who got loose, really quick and got the hell out of there.
To stop the other two dogs from using our yard as a kitty litter, we paid thousands and thousands of dollars to surround most of our yard with a fence.
Soon after, the other two dogs died. Then the kids, who had lots and lots of parties and drank a whole lot started to move out.
The mom gets thinner and thinner and more leathery looking every day. The dad is a combustion, waiting to ignite. They finally had to kick the last kid out of the house because he tried to light their house on fire a few times.
It got nice and quiet next door, except for when one of them would drive into our fence and we'd have to fix it.
But then we got a couple of calls from people wanting us to walk messages over to them. Strangers who turned out to be credit collectors. Once they realized that I wouldn't walk over their messages, without a fee, they quit calling here.
The house went on the market last fall and it's been sitting there ever since. Even though they've underpriced it for this market by almost $80,000.
One of the neighbors farther south, who is also a friend of ours, came over yesterday to tell Thor that he'd made arrangements to take a walk through the house with the couple's daughter, who is also their realtor.
He was thinking he might buy it and flip it. But after he got inside he realized that this was no house for flipping. It's a house for bulldozing.
Apparently the place is totally trashed. They probably didn't even bother to fix the attempted arson spots. I'm not sure. I didn't talk to our friend, Thor did.
What really makes me nervous is that they no longer have garbage pick up and all of their garbage is being tossed into their garage. And their garage sits really close to our property line and our house. When spring comes and the thaw starts to heat up that stuff, it's going to be very rank around here.
I'll call the city and they'll do something about it but really, I just can't wait for them to be gone.
Gah!
Today I'm finally feeling better. No more stuffy nose. Well, no more than usual. So I'm going to get started in my new Health Regime Before 50. I'll be going to the gym 3 times per week, more times for icing. I haven't been to the gym in months and I tend to get started, go gangbusters and then get injured and quit going. So I'm going to be taking it slow. I'm starting by just walking 30 minutes on the treadmill for a couple of weeks then bump it up to 45. Do that for a couple more weeks and then add in the elliptical. That's where I go crazy. I LOVE the elliptical and will go like a madwoman on it, giving myself a headache that lasts all day, causing me to start to avoid the gym in my on-going vicious cycle.
No more of that. I need to get my health in gear. I can hear my heartbeat in my ear at night when I go to bed. And that typically means that my blood pressure is up. I refuse to be my mother, including her first quadruple bypass surgery at 55.
But first I need to get new earbuds for my iPod. Thing 2 keeps taking mine so I'm going to get a new pair and keep them hidden in my gym bag.
