If this riding in the car while my son learns to drive is a true test of what sort of control freak I am that I must say, I'm much less of a control freak than I thought I was! However, I'm a bigger giggler than I thought I was.
He's a pretty darned good driver after only having his permit since yesterday. I think driving the John Deere riding lawnmower every week has had more benefits than just getting the lawn mowed.
Today we took his friend Patrick around for a ride. Drove through the senior high rise/nursing home's parking lot. I figure that'd give him slow targets to hopefully avoid. He waved his first person across the pedestrian crosswalk.
Even had to drive past a police officer!
Then we took his little brother to his cousin's, but not before picking up Grandma to go along for the ride. He backed onto the curb across the street from Grandma's house. Hey - I can't fuss about that - it's the same place where his very own Grandpa backed into my girlfriend's Grandma, 30 years ago when they were both backing out of their driveways at the exact same time. I'm just relieved it was only a curb, and nobody's Grandma!
I'm hoping his dad's feeling well enough to be taken for a drive. I shouldn't be the only parent having this much fun!
