Lefsepalooza was a success! Lefse, for those of you not Scandihoovian is the Scandinavian version of a tortilla. Only it's made with potatoes. Really. You boil potatoes, you smoosh them through a ricer to make them finer, or something. I'm not sure why. You add butter and cream and let them get cold. Then you mix them with some flour and shape them into balls that you roll out with a grooved rolling pin and fry up on a lefse grill.
Best eaten with butter then sugar or brown sugar. Roll 'em up first!
I had the best of intentions when I started out. Wanting to make smaller lefse. About 1/8 of the way through it dawned on me why lefse makers make bigger lefse. There's alot more rolling involved with smaller pieces of lefse. I started to double up my balls.
There were 4 of us using 3 lefse grills at the same time. I was afraid we'd overload the circuits but we did just fine, having run an extension cord from the laundry room with it's own dedicated circuit. Apparently it was a little too much juice because the lefse grill hooked up to that one ended up melting it's prong into our extension cord.
It was an old lefse grill, apparently not meant for real electricity or something.
I've got pictures. For later. Can't move so much right now.
Anyway, I'm left with a whole lotta lefse that I dole out only to those who truly appreciate the lefse. Lefse-worthy people.
My little brother got a good-sized ziploc bag. We'll see what other applicants have to say about lefse before I determine their worth.
Now my back is totally eff'd up from the rolling of the dough. Plus the fact that I was stupid enough to open and close the new futon frames all by myself. Stupid stupid stupid.
Thankfully today is a quiet day so I plan to lay down as much as possible so that it will loosen up and allow me to walk upright once again. Damn back.
I'm just glad I got my Christmas shopping done ahead of time. All I have to do is wrap it but that won't take too long.
