Topic Right Now:
Last night at 10:30 I was ready to set down my book and turn the lights off for a good's night sleep. Usually I'm not even getting into bed until after 11:00 so I was happy to be ahead of schedule. I was out in seconds.
At 3:04 a.m. I heard Thing 2 go into the bathroom. He used the toilet and then I heard him turn on the water in the tub so I got concerned that he was sick and was trying to clean up. I heard him step into the shower and then I opened the door to ask what was going on.
"I'm taking a shower!" he said.
I told him it was 3 in the morning and he said "I had this dream..."
I left him alone so he could get out and dry off and go back to bed. The only recollection he has of it this morning is when he was drying himself off.
He doesn't usually sleep walk. You can get him to have a conversation, albeit a goofy one, while he's sleeping but I don't recall him going this far while asleep.
Topic Yesterday:
I took Oreo to the vet and dropped her off. It was all so clinical and yet sad at the same time. Poor little kitty. I'm going to call this morning to find out what's going on. It seems weird to just drop her off and then wait for them to get ahold of me by Wednesday or Thursday.
Yoda was lonely without her. And she was also a barfing machine. It's the new low-protein food we got for Oreo. She's going to have to get used to it I guess. Probably shouldn't have just changed the food altogether.
Topic Sunday:
I started removing the wallpaper paste from the first floor hallway. What a bitch of a job! I already used 2 bottles of Dif and totally fucked up my right wrist from using the damn spray bottles. I'm giving my wrist a three day rest and then I'll be back at it but with a new approach. I'm going to apply the Dif with a sponge.
But really, what a frickin' mess. I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep the hardwood floor dry underneath while making sure it actually is dry. So far I'm putting down a couple of plastic garbage bags with thick towels over it so I keep moving them as I work and cleaning up the floor immediately behind me. What a bitch!
Topic: Clothes Washer
Long-time readers of Kitchen Logic know that we have troubles with our washing machines around here. The first was the very expensive Bosch front-load washer that had to have each and every part replaced by an incredibly stupid repairman who I got to know very well.
Then we purchased a machine from ApplianceNotSoSmart (hi Rachel!) that squeaked and creaked and made a huge racket so we returned it and waited forEVER for Rachel to give us our money back. ;)
Then we purchased a Maytag without any bells and whistles on it. It worked fine for awhile and then some gasket gave out on the bottom and there was water everywhere. Upon further research, this model is well known in the Maytag Repair Circle for blowing a gasket.
Thor set it aside for later repair while he put in place a washing machine circa 1980 that he'd picked up from someone's driveway for free, courtesy of Craig's List. That mofo quit working short two loads of finished laundry on Saturday afternoon.
The Maytag was loaded into the back of the van and taken to the Maytag appliance center where they took a look at it and called us back to let us know it would cost us $280 to fix it. Would we like it done or would we like to pick up a similar used one for $150?
And so, Thor will be heading over there today and if Thor knows what's good for him, Thor will come back with a $150 machine that will get me through the Christmas and New Year's laundry season. At our rate of washing machine problems, we'll be lucky to keep this one running through Thanksgiving.
Topic: Van Brakes
The Brake Light that used to go on only when I took Rally Turns (thanks Reader Don) now goes on even through slow left turns. It's time for the van to go in for repairs.
Let's summarize, shall we?
Cat - from $500 to $700 with just exploration alone.
Washing Machine - $150 plus what they decide to charge us for figuring that out.
Van brakes - Limitless.
Ain't nothing priceless about it.
