Gorgeous day yesterday. Even more gorgeous day today. 70 and sunny!
Thor and I headed out yesterday morning to look for knobs for the living room's french doors aka Scooter's Plush Prison. We've been using packing tape as makeshift handles and it's getting a bit difficult.
Of course, I let Scooter out this morning so the knobs aren't necessary. But still, we eventually needed it and apparently Scooter was the push we needed to get our butts in gear.
We looked at Restoration Hardware first but they didn't have anything we wanted. We accidentally got talked into getting costs for a couch that we liked. Man, we were just looking at the thing, we didn't want to marry it. But the saleswoman was aggressive and next thing you know, we've got ourselves seated and have to wait for an estimate to get written up.
We didn't buy. We never were going to buy. Not at that time. Funny thing, though. The salesperson mentioned the Lifetime Guarantee on the couch. And we both realized that we probably have a Lifetime Guarantee on the couch already sitting in our family room. So I'm going to spend time today calling the furniture store we bought it at to see if we can get the springs retied because that's probably all it needs.
We went across the hall from Restoration Hardware and found what we wanted for the french doors. But in typical Thor fashion, we are never ever ever allowed to pay retail without researching it to death.
We stopped by the local Comp USA, that's going out of business. God, I hate that store. Never liked it when it was really in business. Now it's a hell hole full of crap that's hardly discounted at all. They had a shelf full of framed pictures for $18 each. Black metal frames with a tree in the middle and some sort of inspirational saying. Please, toss this shit! Each minute in this store felt like an eternity. With Thor picking up and putting down all sorts of junk that we already have a basement full of. Seriously, the amount of circuit boards and unrecognizable computer gear in our basement are enough to start our own Going Out of Business Comp USA store.
The phone rang while I was suffering through it all. One of the kids placing an order from Burger King. I was happy to have a distraction.
So, tallying it all up - we went to two stores looking for doorknobs and bought nothing plus a going out of business sale that was worthless and boring. Add it together and you get the reason why I don't go shopping with Thor very often.
After I dropped Thor off at home I headed to the Gem Show. I'd gotten there late enough in the afternoon that alot of people had left. But still. Too many tables, too many people means very hot air and a whole lot of butt bumping.
I did score some really cool stuff and except for the highway robbery at the silver vendor's booth, I think I got some pretty good deals.
Guess what I'm going to do today? Hide in the basement with Yoda, out of sight of that hyper little kitty while I make jewelry.
And I suppose I'll spend a little time outside in the gorgeous warmth. Sorry New Englanders!
