Happy Halloween you non-Jehovah's witnesses! Poor Jehovah's witnesses, they can't trick-or-treat nor can they get time and a half for working today.
I just got back from Food For Folks with mom.
I didn't need to practice my forgiveness skills today. No. It was more about practicing tolerance. I'm better at forgiveness than tolerance but mostly I was pretty not-mean to mom today.
Thing 2 has decided that he is going trick-or-treating tonight. I had to run to Target today to buy a white sheet so he can be a ghost. His idea, not mine. If it were up to me I'd find him something goofy to wear out of his dad's closet and be done with it. Thor shops at Value Village. Thor owns an orange plaid sports jacket that he wears frequently. That's just the tip of Thor's wardrobe iceberg.
Speaking of Thor, let the holiday games begin.
We'll be heading up to his hometown for Thanksgiving, against my foot stomping and immature behavior ways. But we're going because Thor insists and if we don't go at Thanksgiving, we'll be going at Christmas. And if we're going at Christmas, Thor's going alone because Christmas at our house is a regular hootenanny that no one wants to miss.
My family goes all out for the holidays. Hell, we had a meeting about it a few weeks ago and I have a four-page document, complete with photos, for distribution amongst the family. Complete with a breakdown of time of events, who's buying for who and who's bringing what dish and "DAMN YOU - there are no Calico Beans welcome at my house on Chistmas Eve. Don't you people understand that Calico Beans are for the 4th of July, not Christmas!"
Thor's family isn't so much into the holidays. I am not allowed to go into details for fear that I might wake up some day, dead from airing someone else's laundry. Thor's a private kind of guy, which is why I don't say much about him. But I will say this, at my own risk, the food isn't edible. Unless you are a fan of Turkey Jerky that's been thawing out on the washing machine for two weeks prior to the day of it's cooking gone too far.
And I just don't like sleeping away from home.
Alas, I married a man from out of town and sometimes I just need to put on my big, big girl pants and deal with it.
That doesn't mean I won't go without fussing. I will, however, practice my non-whining skills. Let's just hope I'm better at those than I am at my Tuesday's Forgiveness and Tolerance Skills.
Did you know that I started writing Kitchen Logic 6 years ago this very day? One part of me wishes I hadn't erased all my old entries, another part of me is glad that I did.
